HELLO!

I'm Savindi, and welcome to The Pop Culture Vortex, where I'm going to be discussing my observations about pop culture, youth and media! This blog is part of my course work for my Youth, Media and Popular Culture course in my Master of Education Program.

Currently, I'm on my 10th course of my Graduate Program, and I'm excited that I get to focus on one of my favourite topics; pop culture! My pop culture exposure is very much influenced by growing up between Sri Lanka and Canada. In Sri Lanka, I was mostly exposed to '80s and 90's cartoons such as G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Jem & the Holograms, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, Bots Master, Captain Planet, Batman the Animated Series and Transformers, to name a few. Disney was also a huge influence, including a lot of dubbed animations such as Asterix. My musical exposure was influenced by 90's Brit Pop, EDM, Motown and Classical music. Growing up, some of my favourite shows to watch were Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, Ocean Girl, Round the Twist and Spellbinder. Today, I'm a huge fan of anime (especially Studio Ghibli movies), KPOP and British tv.

In this blog, I'll be discussing some of the content we discuss in my class and my responses to said content. Perhaps in the future, I'll continue to talk about pop culture in much more depth.

Thank you for visiting my blog!
